In this the 15th year of the Girls Flag Football League we would like to thank the pioneers that paved the way for the thousands of young ladies that have participated in the Greenwich Girls league over the past 15 years.
Long before flag football for girls became the fastest youth sport in the country these young ladies were out in front leading the way by example. We are extremely proud of them..
In celebration of the 15th year will feature a few of the young ladies that helped make us what we are today the largest girls flag football league in the Tri-State area.
First up to bat are the "FIRST LADIES" of Girls Flag Football in Greenwich, Cate Decker and Erika Hvolbeck. These two ladies are the main reason Girls Flag Football was started in Greenwich.
Cate and Erika were the only girls that played in the boy's league. They were very good players; we couldn't help but think how they would do if they played with and against young ladies their own age. Which that idea the girls league was formed. These young ladies won three consecutive girl league championships. After their playing days ended, they coached an all-girls team for a few years. They also refereed games for the league. These great community efforts earned both young ladies the programs college scholarship (F.L.A.G.) Foundation for Leadership & Academic Growth. We are extremely grateful for Cate and Erika contribution to the town of Greenwich.
